Beginning Our Adoption Blog

We are 5 months into the adoption process of our second child. Our biological daughter, Raleigh, is 4 years old. We decided to expand our family and adoption was a natural way to do it for us. Natural, but not easy!

After researching many different options, Sam and I decided to adopt from Colombia. We want another daughter, and we will be adopting a 3 or 4 year old.

We couldn’t fathom the requirements/process involved in international adoption. We have been knee deep in paper work, waiting, medical testing, waiting, psychological evaluation, waiting, fingerprinting (4x), waiting, social worker visits and interviews, waiting, and document chasing in 5 states and the Bahamas (where we were married). Whew! The waiting for a response in each step is the hardest part. No one is as eager about your adoption as you are! We are now finishing up our dossier (packet with EVERYTHING that will go to Colombia) and waiting on homeland security for approval. If all goes well, Colombia will have our dossier in a month and we can settle in for our long wait for a referral of a child which will be 6-18 months.

Welcome to our story.
