I neglected to update when things happened, so I’ll fill you in now. I really want to get better at blogging to be able to keep a good record of every step – for three reasons. First, reading other’s blogs during this process has helped us to know what we can expect each step of the way which has been a saving grace, and I hope another family can benefit from mine. Second, we want a detailed story for our daughter when she grows up. We want her to know how much we wanted her, that maybe she didnt come from my belly but she can see she was always in our hearts. There will be at least 3 years of her life we won’t know much about, but we will start her life story here. And of course we want to keep our family and friends updated on our journey. My grammar might not always be correct, I might not always use the right words, or there might be typos, but I want to write from my heart without the fear of not being perfect.
Our dossier (documents) has made it’s way to Colombia. We got feedback on Tuesday (4/3/12) at 3:30pm. I was at the gym when I received the email. Luckily, the only changes we had to make we’re to take out a couple pages that weren’t necessary and write “Vacca Family” on one document. That’s it! Anticipating her email, I had everything ready in my car. I ran out of the gym, made the necessary changes, and sped to FedEx. So much for relaxing ๐ When you lose so many days along the way waiting on other people, everything seems urgent when it’s under your control. I sent it overnight to LSSMN, so it would arrive by 10am. I knew the agency had to add a few things before sending it to Colombia, but I didn’t know how long that would take. Of course I was hoping it would only take five minutes and off it would go ๐ We were driving down to my mom’s in FL for spring break on Wed afternoon when I got an email from Ms. K asking for my FedEx # and letting us know it’s ready to go! She probably laughed when she got my response in 15 seconds. She wrote back with a tracking # and we followed it everyday (6 days) until it arrived in Bogota. It is now being translated into Spanish which will take 6-8 weeks. I’m guessing we won’t hear anything until then.
This is a huge milestone in the adoption process. Other than updating some paperwork when they expire, our part is over for awhile. After 6 months of paper chasing and paperwork it’s a bit of a relief to have it out of our hands. Now we wait. It could be 6 months, it could be 18 months, or anywhere in between. I just want to take this time to focus on our little family of three for the remaining time we have before our family dynamic is changed forever.
