A letter to our future adopted daughter on Father’s Day 2012.
Dear Hope,
I’m writing today to tell you about your daddy. How I got so blessed with him, I’ll never know. And you, in turn, will receive the same blessing in your life.
Your daddy is the most caring man I’ve ever met. You will never doubt that. He will show you every day, as he does Raleigh and me. He will be there for you, to laugh and play, for a chest to sleep on, to provide wisdom when you need to talk something over. He will pick you up when you fall, and care for and kiss your boo boos. Caring is your dad.
He is kind. Kind and accepting of those who are different and less
fortunate, to fellow human beings. Helping and giving to others is a daily occurrence. Friends and family know they can depend on him. He is kind to all animals. I can’t tell you how many times he has saved the life of a turtle, a toad, a bird, a rabbit, a snake, or a raccoon. Just to name a few. He has gentle empathy and a heart of gold. Kind is your dad.
Your dad is dedicated and hard working. He always puts us first and does what’s necessary to make each area of his life successful. His tenacity is rare, something you will no doubt pick up on, making your life better and your future brighter. He will always take care of us and our home, making our safety his number one priority. He will work day and night, existing on little sleep, to provide for us – doing whatever it takes to ensure us a better future. Dedicated and hard working is your dad.
Your dad is brilliant and talented. He will laugh at that, but it’s true. He knows so much, his brain must be near capacity 🙂 Which would cause a problem, because he spends most of his day learning new things. He can fix just about anything, because at some point in his life he’s ran across the same thing, didn’t know how to do it, then read, researched, and tried until he could. He’s a science buff and he’s always been in the top of his class, all the way thru grad school. You’ll always have an eager helper for your science projects. He’s successful at what he attempts because he’s persistent and doesn’t give up. Brilliant and talented is your dad.
He is hilarious. Your life will be full of smiles and laughter. I have never met anyone as quick witted and funny as he is. People like being with him because it’s enjoyable. He’ll make fun of you and you’ll laugh about it. He’ll say something funny when you’re mad at him, do your best not to crack, and fail the majority of the time. He makes mundane and even tedious tasks often amusing and entertaining. Hilarious is your dad.
Your dad is romantic and chivalrous. You will have the blessing of seeing how a man should treat and love a woman by watching him with me. When you get older, a boy will have a hard time stealing your heart, because your expectations will be appropriately high. He writes me things that melt my heart. When we’re stressed over normal daily living, he’s always there to let me know we’re in this life together. Romantic and chivalrous is your dad.
I have a dream that you and Raleigh will one day find someone that fulfills you and your life as your dad does mine. I pray by next Father’s Day you will have had the chance to experience all of these things your father is. Hang in there…we’ll be there to bring you home as soon as possible.
With all my heart,
Mommy
